The Organisations of Rutherglen Old Parish Church

The Kirk Session shares with the Minister the pastoral oversight of the congregation and parish.  It meets approximately monthly, usually after meetings of the Congregational Board.

The Congregational Board looks after the finances of the church and the fabric of the church and manse.  It meets on the first Tuesday of most months and at other times, as required.

The Carpet Bowling Club meets in the Church Hall on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1.30 p.m. until 3.30 p.m. between October and Easter.

The Church Choir participates actively in all our services contributing, in particular, to the liturgy of our main quarterly communion services.  Choir practice takes place on Sundays after the service.

On the second Saturday of each month between 10 and 12 a Congregational Coffee Morning takes place, providing an opportunity for members to meet informally and to welcome visitors.

Every Sunday the Church is decorated with Flowers which are distributed after the service to bereaved, ill or elderly members and friends of the congregation.

The Girls' Brigade meets in the Church Hall from 6.30 p.m. to 8.45 p.m. every Tuesday evening from September until May.  Membership is open to any girl aged 5, or above.

The Kool Kids are our youth club for children aged 5 to 8.  They meet each Thursday evening from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.  Activities include praise, stories and games.  The 745 Club for children aged 9 to 11 meets from 7.30 p.m to 8.30 p.m.  and is followed by the 7Up Club for those aged from 12 to 14 which meets from 8.30 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.

Between October and Easter the Woman's Guild meets each Monday evening at 7.30 p.m. in the downstairs Church Hall.  A varied syllabus of meetings and events is arranged each session.

All staff of our youth organisations have undergone the appropriate Child Protection training and the Church and its organisations adhere to the Child Protection procedures specified by the Church of Scotland.  The Church and its organisations also comply with current hygiene legislation.

Rutherglen Old Parish Church actively supports the work of the Church of Scotland's Board of Social Responsibility and its Missionary Partner Plan, Christian Aid, the Leprosy Mission and the Lodging House Mission.  The Old Parish publishes a quarterly Newsletter and distributes Life & Work, the official magazine of the Church of Scotland, to those who wish to purchase it.

Rutherglen Burns Club is an independent organisation which meets in the Old Parish Church.
